Dear Clay Nation,
I come to you this month with a focus on ISTEP+ testing. Our theme for this year’s testing cycle is “ISTEPin’ Our Way Into Greatness”. The purpose of the Indiana Statewide Testing for Educational Progress Plus (ISTEP+) program is to measure student achievement in the subject areas of English/Language Arts, Mathematics, Science (Grades 4 and 6), and Social Studies (Grades 5 and 7). In particular, ISTEP+ reports student achievement levels according to the Indiana Academic Standards that were adopted in November 2000 by the Indiana State Board of Education. An Applied Skills Assessment and a Multiple-Choice Assessment, which are required components of the ISTEP+ program, are used to measure these standards and measure student achievement.
It gives me great pleasure to report that Carmel-Clay Schools had the highest ISTEP scores in the state this past year of testing. Our past and present success has been derived from strong parent support, community support, and a dedicated teaching staff that understands the importance of every student doing his or her best in order to be the most prepared to achieve at the highest level. At Clay, our goal is that every student improves every year and is able to demonstrate mastery on grade-level standards.
As principal, I believe it is my position to help provide vision, leadership, oversight, safety, and the best instruction to every student that attends Clay Middle School. I truly realize that success cannot be accomplished without a cooperative effort from our parents, community, teaching staff, and most of all our students. We believe every student can and will achieve and by working together we can help each student achieve their optimal success. I would like to challenge all Clay Trojans to Find Your Greatness and together we will take Clay Middle School to even greater heights.
Attached you will find very important dates for ISTEP+. In addition to these dates, I have also added a list of several reminders from the Indiana Department of Education that will helpful for your son/daughter during testing period.
Thank you in advance for all your help and support and all you do for Clay Middle School.
