2012-2013 Teacher Liaisons Committee Chair: Kate Scott
The chair of this committee links parents who want to help the school with PTO committees that need volunteers. The chair distributes a form to determine volunteers' areas of interest. They collect the forms and create a database to manage the hundreds of names, phone numbers, and email addresses, which are shared with the appropriate committees. She also coordinates the information for the school's Teacher Liaisons. To learn more about Teacher Liaisons, scroll further down.
While it is preferable to fill out a volunteer form at the beginning of the year, it may not always be possible. Perhaps you just moved here or maybe your work schedule has changed. If so please download the volunteer form and send the completed form to the office or in an envelope in your child's backpack marked "PTO Volunteers."
For the safety of our Smoky Row students and as a policy of the Carmel Clay School Board, Criminal History Background Checks are required for Volunteers who are responsible for supervising students alone, including Field Trip Chaperones, Family Fun Night, and Teachers of the After School Enrichment Classes. Criminal History Background Checks are good for 5 years. Scroll down to find a link for a Criminal History Background Check Application.
The Volunteers Committee Chair also organizes the Teacher Liaison system for the school. Teacher Liaisons are the teachers' contacts for whenever they need help in the classroom. Parents can sign up to be a liaison at Meet the Teacher Night, which is during the second week of school.
Parents who volunteer to be a Teacher Liaison in their child's class are responsible for finding volunteers for whatever that teacher requests (creating materials for the classroom, sharpening pencils, etc.). Also, a Liaison will find volunteers for that class's computer lab, field trips, and classroom parties. Additional responsibilities include finding volunteers throughout the year for special events such as Everybody Counts, Basket Auction, and Family Fun Night.
Each September, the chairs of the Volunteers Committee conduct an orientation session for Liasons, where they provide tips and suggestions regarding Liaison responsibilities. The chairs continue to provide guidance to them throughout the year.
